Terms of Use
Plain terms for a transparent platform.
We have written these terms in plain language because we believe the people who use this platform deserve to understand it clearly.

What Atlas of Us is
Atlas of Us is a platform for expressing and exploring human priorities. It is designed to be a mirror — to reflect what people around the world say matters most to them — not to advocate for any particular position, political outcome, or ideology.
The platform does not take sides. It does not endorse the priorities submitted by users, and the appearance of any issue in the results does not represent the views of Atlas of Us or its creators. What you see is what people have expressed. Nothing more.
Your submissions
When you submit priorities through Atlas of Us, you are contributing to an anonymous, aggregated dataset. Your submission is associated with your location (country and region) but not with your identity. We do not ask for your name, email address, or any personal information.
By submitting, you grant Atlas of Us the right to store, aggregate, and display your priorities as part of the public dataset. Individual submissions are never shown in isolation — only as part of collective results.
You retain no expectation of having a specific submission removed, as individual submissions cannot be identified or isolated once they have been contributed to the aggregate.
Content and moderation
Atlas of Us welcomes a wide range of expressed priorities — including those that are politically charged, uncomfortable, or controversial. The platform's purpose is to reflect human concerns honestly, not to sanitise them.
That said, we reserve the right to review, rephrase, or remove custom submissions that:
- Call for violence against named individuals or groups
- Promote hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality, or other characteristics
- Are designed to flood or manipulate the dataset rather than express a genuine view
Where a submission contains a legitimate underlying priority but is expressed in inflammatory or harmful terms, we may suggest a more neutral phrasing before making it publicly visible. We will not change the substance of what was expressed — only the framing, where necessary to prevent harm.
Submissions that fall outside these boundaries are stored privately and reviewed. They are never displayed publicly unless approved. We do not delete them, because we believe there is value in understanding the full range of what people express — even what we choose not to amplify.
Understanding the data
Atlas of Us is not a scientific poll and does not claim to be. The results reflect the priorities of people who have chosen to participate, not a statistically representative sample of any population.
We are also transparent about a current limitation: without verified one-person-one-voice, a single individual submitting multiple times could theoretically influence the results. This means that what appears to be a widely held priority may, in some cases, reflect repeated submissions from a small number of people rather than genuine breadth of concern.
We are committed to solving this — verified, privacy-preserving identity confirmation is a core long-term goal of the platform. Until then, we ask that you interpret the results as indicative signals rather than definitive measurements. Read more about our integrity commitment.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not display advertising.
- We do not share your location data with third parties for commercial purposes.
- We do not use your submission to infer personal information about you.
- We do not tell you what to prioritise or attempt to influence your views.
Age
You must be at least 13 years old to submit priorities through Atlas of Us. By participating, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
No warranties
Atlas of Us is provided as-is. We make no warranties about the accuracy, completeness, or representativeness of the data. The platform is an early-stage project under active development, and features may change. We are not liable for any decisions made based on the information displayed.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. Any disputes arising from your use of this platform will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Nova Scotia.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Atlas of Us after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms. We will always try to communicate significant changes clearly.
